The City Government recently gave away motorcycles of this model to five barangays in an effort to form better coordination with them in times of emergencies and other pressing concerns. Within the barangays, the motorcycle-cum-pick up was meant to mobilize barangay officials to better respond to the needs of their constituents. It is also in keeping with the LGU's principle of empowering the barangays in pursuit of the city's development.

       Hopes of economic development in the rural areas soared with the start of construction and rehabilitation of a Farm-to-Market Road (FMR) passing through four interior barangays.

To compensate for their small allowances, the City Government has registered its 141 Volunteer Aides under an insurance policy scheme being offered by the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC).
       In a continued support for the city's fishing sector, City Mayor Coefredo "Tekwa" Uy will be giving away fishing boat engines in an effort to help improve the livelihood of this group.

       In a recent visit to Brgy. Payao, ten boat engines were given away while there are also plans to give 20 more in Brgy. Burac and 15 in Brgy. Guinsorongan.

       Also present during the activity in Payao were City Agriculturist Ruth Dasal, Mr. Daniel Daguman, also of the Office of the City Agriculturist and Brgy. Chairperson Nilda Bachao. 

       The said session took place just several weeks after the city mayor gave away fishing boats to 22 fisher folks from Canlapwas. Prior to this, 10 boats have been given away in Brgy. Cabugawan, 10 in Basiao and 20 in Payao, putting the total number of fishing boats given this year at 62.

       After the whirlwind of activities that came with the First Charter Day Celebration, it was deemed best that the City Fiesta that will follow should be more modest to emphasize the need to reflect on the changes, trials and successes that this new city has been through.

       With this, the theme of the 2008 Catbalogan City Fiesta was formed: "Pasalamat . . . Pagsalin-urog . . . Pagkaurusa . . . Celebrating Amidst Changes and Challenges." A mass on the first day fittingly started the month long fiesta celebrations on a solemn note.

       After holding office in a dilapidated compound for a very long time, a new headquarters finally became available for Catbalogan's police force when the new PNP Building was inaugurated last September 25, 2008. Gracing the event was Malacañang Secretary Gabriel S. Claudio as guest of honor.

       Although threatened by heavy rains, the inauguration pushed through with Claudio and City Mayor Tekwa Uy leading the ribbon cutting ceremony in the presence of Msgr. Francisco Cinco who officiated the blessing of the said building.

       In recognition of the family's importance as a basic unit of the society, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) tied-up with Population Commission (POPCOM-Samar) for the Family Week Celebration from September 22 to 28.
       After being chosen as one of the areas for the implementation of the Healthy Cities Initiative (HCI) of the Department of Health, the next step was to gain insights on how best to implement this project. Catbalogan City's HCI Technical Working Group (HCI-TWG) went to the City of Maasin for this particular purpose.
